[1/23] 2026 Goal Progress: One Week at the Gym

Another week, another progress check on my goals. This is basically my "Am I actually doing this?" accountability session.

Health

Personal Training, Initiated

I finally went to my first personal training session. I've also booked the next month's worth of sessions—scheduled for once a week.

The trainer said my form was "beautiful." Both upper and lower body. Apparently I was doing it naturally (even without being taught).

The most memorable advice was: First, solidify your form with light weights. Proper form makes a huge difference down the line. Just gotta grind it out.

Deadlifts were my first time, and controlling the abdominal pressure was tricky. I couldn't quite figure out how to engage properly.

My Diet Changed

Once I got into the cycle of getting sore and recovering, my appetite increased dramatically. I can feel my body craving calories and protein.

Before, skipping breakfast and lunch was normal for me. Now I actually get hungry and can eat properly. It feels like I've returned to a normal human life.

Even at yakiniku, I started choosing leaner cuts. For snacks during work, I switched to mixed nuts. Instead of eating a lot, I'm focusing on quality.

Also, my posture has improved significantly. Part of it is being more conscious, but maybe I'm also building muscle.

Morning Person Challenge

Still haven't achieved the 6 AM wake-up goal. Usually I get up between 8 and 8:30 AM. Bedtime is between 10 PM and midnight.

However, I woke up at 5:30 AM today.

The reason? I had a weird dream. That woke me up, and I thought, "Might as well stay up." (What kind of reason is that?)

But hey, not going back to sleep was pretty impressive.

Quitting Smoking

No progress.

However, when I go to the office, my cigarette count drops dramatically. Environment has a big impact.

I'm starting with the awareness of limiting myself to one pack a day. Some days I stay within a pack, some days I exceed it. But I've stopped going over two packs. Small progress.

Since I can't quit, I bought more JT stock. Recovering through dividends.

Work

Using Claude Code to Streamline Team Development

As the team has grown, I've been working on documenting domain knowledge for each project into Claude Code.

I wrote service characteristics, philosophy, and traffic patterns in CLAUDE.md. Now anyone can understand the service overview with minimal context.

Skills include:

  • Code review (base knowledge + service-specific knowledge)
  • Security checks (common vulnerability countermeasures)

This has made reviews much smoother. It functions as documentation for engineers, and when implementing through Claude Code, development can be done with domain knowledge in mind.

Built Cryptocurrency Auto-Trading System

As a personal project, I built a system that monitors newly listed cryptocurrencies and auto-trades them.

It monitors the trending "1000x coins," buys at the right timing, and sells at target multiples. Running it as a scheduled job.

Two days since deployment. No buys have occurred yet. Hopefully I'll have something to report next week.

Money

3 Million Yen Savings Plan

My goal for 2026 is to increase savings by 3 million yen.

Breakdown:

  • Monthly savings: 100,000 yen × 12 months = 1.2 million yen
  • Investment returns: 1.8 million yen

Based on last year's results, I reverse-calculated the principal needed to achieve 1.8 million and built my portfolio.

The composition is entirely stocks. Mainly tech companies and AI stocks I personally believe in.

English Learning

22 consecutive days on Duolingo. Somehow I ranked #1 (no idea which ranking).

10-30 minutes per day. Some days are short, but I'm keeping it up every day.

Focusing on listening, having video calls with AI to listen and speak.

What was interesting was finding Center Listening exam audio on Spotify. Stuff I couldn't understand at all as a student, I could actually hear now. Felt the growth.

However, there are words that look super easy when I see them but are incomprehensible when I hear them. Words like "a" and "and." Filling in the gaps with small steps.

Closing Thoughts

Starting the gym this week felt like my life changed all at once. My appetite returned, my posture improved, I became a normal human.

Next week:

  • Watch portfolio and take profits if possible
  • Health management (don't catch a cold in this cold weather)
  • Continue English learning

The top priority is not breaking the weekly gym streak. Consistency is everything.
